This year, RAG Austria AG participated at the "Lange Nacht der Forschung" for the first time. Interested visitors were able to visit the research storage facility in Pilsbach on Friday, May 20, 2022 from 5 to 11 p.m.

At four stations, experts from RAG and the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences in Vienna (BOKU) explained how renewable energy can be stored underground and, in a further step, even converted into green gas. "It's about storing renewable energy on a large scale, i.e. harvesting summer sun and storing it so that we have enough gas available in winter," explained Stephan Bauer, head of the "Green Gas Technology" department at RAG Austria AG.

The interest of the visitors was great despite temperatures beyond 30 degrees. In total, 210 people took the opportunity to inform themselves about this exciting topic. "It is very well presented and I think this is a very important, forward-looking research", said an enthusiastic visitor of the event.

We can look back on a successful event and will gladly use such formats in the future to make RAG's research projects accessible to a broader group of people: "We are anchored here in the region, we always try to maintain the best possible dialog with the population. It is of course also our ambition to draw attention to the challenges of a renewable energy future and such projects are very well suited for this purpose," says Stephan Bauer.
